We acted as project manager for the refurbishment of Ashington Campus at Northumberland College, the main building on the campus being a 107,000 sq ft tower block which required substantial refurbishment and significant upgrades.

Works included the replacement of all c. 800 windows, concrete repairs to address cracking/spalling, roofing replacements, entire floor refurbishment, including layout alterations and comprehensive heating system replacements.

Additional works were the creation of a health simulation wards for nursing students and a new entrance, reception and student recreational areas.

During the works, the college remained fully operational, so we developed a comprehensive list of site rules which ensured the safety of students, staff and site operatives. The planned nature of the scheduling ensured that student studies were not interrupted.

The age of the building and the condition of the service installations presented a challenge as the energy performance was poor. To rectify this, we installed new boilers, a building management system and LED lighting, which improved the energy performance and efficiency of the building, generating operational cost and environmental savings for the client.
