Hollis designed and implemented a large intrusive investigation at a former industrial site, the aim of which was to determine if historical or recent land uses had resulted in significant ground contamination.

The investigation comprised the excavation of a large number of boreholes across the site; recovery of soil and groundwater samples
for laboratory analysis; ground gas monitoring; and the completion of a generic quantitative risk assessment (GQRA). The site is located in a sensitive environmental setting, adjacent to a major river and several residential properties. Care had to be taken to ensure the investigation adequately characterised the potential risks to these receptors.

The project team had been involved in previous phases of work onsite and had a good understanding of the potential environmental risks, enabling us to design a cost-effective and robust investigation methodology.
