At the end of May Hollis announced 47 promotions across the business, including two new Partners – Richard Wyn Morris and Ross Powell. Here’s a little introduction to get to know them a bit better – from their biggest achievements, to what makes them tick, and what they like on their chips!

Richard Wyn Morris

Richard is Birmingham-based and has 11 years’ experience. He specialises in commercial project services and CDM services and is also a qualified RICS APC Assessor and Mentor.

What has been your biggest achievement at Hollis and why?

My biggest achievement at Hollis has to be when all three graduates in the Birmingham office passed their APC in June 2019. That was great!

What do you love most about your work?

I love the flexibility between site and office work, as well as meeting different people from all walks of life on a daily basis.

What is the most exciting innovation in your field?

I’d have to say… polished concrete floors to warehouses. Sustainable, long life span, cost effective, and they look great!

Looking ahead, what will be the key features of the industry in 2025?

I think technology, such as drones and virtual meetings, will have an even bigger role to play in our everyday work. Also, the retail sector will likely go through a big transition with their current assets. Will be interesting to see what the future of retail will look like!

What are three things that interest you?

Sport (any involving a ball), cooking and the outdoors.

What do you like on your chips?

Vinegar, then salt and some mayonnaise on the side.

What’s your favourite drink?

A pint of Batham’s Black Country Real Ale – can’t beat it!

Ross Powell

Ross is Head of our Cardiff office and specialises in dilapidations, project services and is a technical due diligence specialist with 15 years’ experience. He acts on behalf of both landlords and tenants. Ross is one of many Partners who joined the business as graduates and now sit at Partner level.

What has been your biggest achievement at Hollis and why?

The delivery of consistent year on year turnover growth since joining our Cardiff office in 2016.  I’ve really enjoyed developing a team and assisting the graduate surveyors through the APC process.

What do you love most about your work?

For me, the best aspect has to be securing great results for our clients, either on a dilapidations settlement or delivering a project.

What’s the most exciting innovation in your field?

As dilapidations is a key service I operate in, I am excited about automated lease abstraction which is something we are exploring at the moment.

Looking ahead, what will be the key features of the industry in 2025?

Surveying innovation and technology is progressing in great strides and I think by 2025 it will have a massive role in our day to day building surveying activities.  With the drive to reduce carbon emissions in construction, I also think by 2025 green construction technologies will become a key feature in the industry.

What’s an interesting fact about yourself?

I’m involved with a charity that undertakes community projects in Uganda, I have previously travelled there to help build a school.

What do you like on your chips?

Salt, vinegar and mayo.

Dogs or cats?

Dogs, my golden retriever Rosie often comes to the office with me to help improve our wellbeing!

Congratulations again to Richard and Ross! Meet some of our other Partners here.
