Funding boost brings fresh urgency to Scotland’s cladding crisis

More than eight years after Grenfell, and nearly six months since the launch of Scotland’s Cladding Remediation Programme, hundreds of buildings across the country continue to present fire safety risks due to unsafe cladding. In response, the Scottish Government has committed an additional £20 million for remediation works and a further £10 million for urgent interim measures. While this investment is welcome, funding alone will not be enough to address the scale and complexity of the challenge.

Dr Benjamin Ralph, Head of Building Safety and Fire at Hollis, commented, “Scotland’s fire safety landscape is rapidly evolving. The focus must be on turning assessment into action, whilst avoiding the pitfalls we’ve seen in England. That means scalable strategies, standardisation where possible, and sharing best practice across industry and authorities.”
