Chartered Surveyor apprenticeship (Level 6)
If you’re looking to start your career in the built environment while earning, learning and gaining real experience, our apprenticeship programme offers a strong and supported pathway.
What you’ll do
As a Surveying apprentice, you’ll spend most of your time learning through doing. Around 80% of your time is spent gaining real workplace experience, supported by close supervision and guidance from our senior teams.
Day to day, you’ll:
- Support building surveying work across commercial properties, including offices, retail and industrial assets
- Assist with site inspections, surveys and data collection
- Help prepare reports, drawings and technical documentation
- Support project work, including refurbishments and fit outs
- Carry out research, measurements and basic analysis to inform advice
- Work closely with colleagues across different teams to understand how projects are delivered
- Take part in client meetings and internal discussions to build commercial awareness.
You’ll be working on live instructions from the start, contributing to real outcomes while building your confidence and capability.
How you’ll learn and develop
Your apprenticeship combines workplace experience with structured, off the job learning delivered by the University of the Built Environment.
This training is well-supported and designed to work alongside your role, offering:
- Flexibility to balance study and work commitments
- Learning approaches suited to different styles and preferences
- Structured academic development linked to your day to day work
- Support to build both technical knowledge and professional skills.
Alongside your formal learning, you’ll receive ongoing support from your team, with regular feedback, guidance and opportunities to stretch your skills.
Over time, you’ll build the experience and knowledge needed to progress towards chartership and a long-term career in the industry.
How you’ll grow
We believe development comes through positive challenge, supported stretch and real responsibility.
As an apprentice, you’ll:
- Build technical knowledge through hands-on experience
- Develop confidence working in a professional environment
- Learn how to manage your time, priorities and responsibilities
- Gain exposure to different types of work and projects
- Take increasing ownership of tasks as your capability grows.
Our One Team approach means you’ll work alongside colleagues across disciplines, developing a broader understanding of how we deliver for clients.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for motivated, curious individuals who are keen to learn and build a career in the built environment.
You don’t need previous industry experience, but you should have:
- A genuine interest in property and the built environment
- A proactive and positive approach to learning
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- The ability to manage study alongside work commitments
- A willingness to ask questions and take ownership of your development.
Above all, we’re looking for people who are committed, enthusiastic and ready to invest in their future.
What you’ll get
When you join us, you’ll become part of a people first, One Team culture where your contribution is recognised and your ambition is supported.
You can expect:
- A structured apprenticeship programme with a recognised qualification
- Support from experienced surveyors and multidisciplinary teams
- Real responsibility and exposure to live projects from the outset
- Well supported off the job training through the University of the Built Environment
- A culture built on trust, development and continuous learning
- A clear pathway towards professional qualification and long-term career progression.
We believe careers thrive where people feel trusted, challenged and supported to grow and that’s the experience we aim to offer every apprentice.
Where you could end up
Our apprenticeship programme is designed to set you up for long-term success.
As you build experience and complete your qualification, you’ll be supported to progress towards becoming a Chartered professional. For many of our Surveying apprentices, this means working towards chartership with RICS.
You’ll:
- Develop the knowledge and practical experience needed for your APC
- Receive structured support and guidance from experienced colleagues
- Build the professional judgement and confidence expected at chartered level
- Progress into a qualified Surveyor role with clear career pathways ahead.
Many of our apprentices go on to build successful careers across our business, taking on greater responsibility, specialising in different areas and contributing to major projects and client relationships.
We believe in investing in people for the long term, and your apprenticeship is just the start of what your career could become.

What is the study day like?
As part of your apprenticeship, you'll have a dedicated study day each week to focus on your university learning and apprenticeship requirements.
We encourage apprentices to choose one regular study day each week, as this helps you manage your workload effectively and build a consistent routine.
Your study day is completed online from your Hollis office, giving you access to support from colleagues while still dedicating time to your studies.
We also recognise that opportunities don't always fit neatly around a fixed schedule. Because learning is delivered online, there is flexibility to move your study day when needed to allow for:
- Site visits and project opportunities
- Client meetings and key business activities
- Annual leave
- Sick leave
- Other exceptional circumstances.
Our aim is to help you balance your development, university commitments and practical experience in a way that supports your success.
Will I be part of an apprentice network?
Yes. Being an apprentice at Hollis means becoming part of a wider community of apprentices across the business.
Our apprentices come together fortnightly on Microsoft Teams to:
- Build relationships across disciplines and offices
- Share knowledge and experiences
- Discuss challenges and successes
- Learn from one another
- Strengthen their professional network.
This creates a supportive environment where advice and support are always available - from both your fellow apprentices and experienced colleagues across the business.
In addition, all apprentices come together once a year for an in-person apprentice event focused on:
- Learning and development
- Networking and collaboration
- Sharing best practice
- Celebrating achievements and successes from the previous 12 months.
The apprentice network is an important part of the apprenticeship experience and helps create connections that often last throughout your career at Hollis.
Will I have responsibility and autonomy?
Yes.
We trust our apprentices to
- Take ownership of their work
- Use judgement and build confidence
- Contribute ideas and solutions.
You’ll be supported, but you’ll also have the freedom to shape your work and grow your capability.
Will I work with clients?
Yes — you’ll gain exposure to clients early in your career.
You may:
- Support client work
- Attend meetings
- Build an understanding of how we deliver value.
This helps you develop both technical skills and commercial awareness.

We’re proud of our One Team, people-first culture.

- Opportunities to specialise or move across disciplines
- Recognition for your contribution.
At Hollis, your ambition sets the pace.
Can I stay at Hollis after my apprenticeship?
Yes. All our apprentices are offered permanent employment from day one.
We see our apprenticeships as the start of a long-term career with us — not a short-term programme. We invest in your development from the beginning, with the expectation that you’ll continue to grow, progress and build your career at Hollis.
You’ll be supported to:
- Continue developing your technical expertise
- Work towards professional qualifications
- Take on increasing responsibility over time.
At Hollis, we want you to stay, develop and succeed long after your apprenticeship has finished — your ambition sets the pace.
Can I use AI tools when applying?
You can use AI tools to support your application, but they should not replace your own thinking.
Your application should reflect:
- Your own ideas
- Your motivations
- Your understanding of the role.
What do you expect if I use AI?
We expect you to:
- Be authentic and honest
- Ensure everything you submit reflects your own experience
- Be able to confidently talk about your answers.
We want to understand how you think and how you approach challenges.
Are there risks to using AI?
Overusing AI can result in:
- Generic applications
- Answers that don’t reflect you
- Difficulty performing in interviews
The strongest applications are personal, clear and genuine.
How do I apply?
You can apply through our careers page when applications open on 1 November and 1 June.
Can I apply for more than one role?
Yes, if your skills and interests align with the roles.
When will I hear back?
We’ll keep you updated throughout the process and communicate clearly at each stage.
What if I need adjustments?
We want everyone to feel supported. If you need any adjustments at any stage, please let us know when applying or contact our recruitment team.
